Explanation
You may have noticed, a train whisle sounds higher in frequency when it is moving towards you and lower in freaquncy after it passes you and moves away from you. This is becuase the sound waves are compressed relative to where you are standing as the train approaches and the waves are likewise stretched out when its moving away from you. The same thing happens for light waves for fast moving objects. When moving closer to you, they are compressed and if light at rest is yellow, the waves will be made shorter in wavelength (higher frequency) and therefore shifted to the blue. In the opposite direction when moving away, the waves get longer in appearance and shift to lower frequency in the red. So if it was a fast moving animal with yellow eyes, the eyes would look red if moving fast away from you and blue if moving fast towards you. By fast here, its unreallistically fast for an animal, but actually, this method is used to detect the speed of galaxies and other astronimical objects and is called the Doppler effect. Get this awesome shirt and start a discussion with your friends! How fast would and object have to move to shift in color?
